David Feldstein

David Feldstein has always had a strong connection with music. Raised in the Chicago area, David earned a B.A. from DePaul University. He began his professional life as a social worker, advocating and supporting kids with special needs. Kids with, as David prefers to call them, “super powers,” show skill, talent, strength, resourcefulness and creativity that living with a lifelong challenge can often provide. He works with many kids that are considered neuro-typical as well. David feels every child, whether living with a life challenge or not, deserves the joy and wonderful feeling of accomplishment that learning guitar provides.

He began taking guitar lessons in the 1970’s as a child. But it became apparent rather quickly that the teacher his parents had hired was unprepared to teach a child with (undiagnosed) ADHD. The teacher suggested that David try something other than guitar as an extracurricular activity.

In 1989, while attending college, David’s interest in guitar was reignited when he first heard Peter Buck’s guitar playing on R.E.M.’s first album, “Murmur.” From there, it became a clear goal to have command of the instrument and be able to share that skill and joy with others.

David has been teaching guitar to kids in the Atlanta metropolitan area since 2005 and he also teaches kids across the country via the web.

In 2013, David released his first album of original music, “Surrender the Silence.” The album is available on limited edition blue vinyl (directly from David), digitally on all of the usual streaming platforms, and via CDBaby on compact disc. Links are available below.

David lives in Decatur, Georgia and has two wonderful sons, Isaac and Ben.

David Feldstein – Surrender The Silence

Anything but noise, Feldstein has delivered a largely instrumental, series of lush folktronic sketches which prominently (and unapologetic) wears its influences.

“This LP I made is Folktronica,” Feldstein said. “It is also a reflection of My Bloody Valentine and Smashing Pumpkins. Stereolab is a great influence because they showed me that often, there’s always place for guitars and Moog together and the sounds stand for themselves.”
